4 Tips for Cleaning a Loved One's Bronze Marker 

1. Brush Away Dirt and Debris

The cleaning process will be much easier if you remove large pieces of debris first. You can remove leaves, twigs, and other items by hand, or sweep them away with a broom. Just be careful not to brush too hard, as you don't want to inadvertently scratch the metal. In this respect, use a soft-bristled broom for the best results. 

2. Apply Mild Soap and Water

Mix mild dish soap and water in a spray bottle and shake thoroughly. Next, spray the solution on the bronze and wipe it away using a soft, microfiber cloth. While mild soap is unlikely to cause harm, don't allow it to linger on the monument for too long, or it could degrade the metal. 

3. Dry the Marker Thoroughly

Once clean, use a dry towel to remove any excess water remaining on the bronze monument. While it will air dry on its own, using a towel also ensures you remove any lingering debris or soap that might be left on the surface. Drying also ensures the marker is ready for the final step. 

4. Protect the Monument With a Coat of Wax

Waxing isn't a necessary step in the cleaning process, but it will keep the grave marker looking its best for years to come by warding off scratches and defects. Look for wax that is specifically formulated for use on bronze, as other types may contain harsh chemicals. Apply the wax evenly over the monument, removing any excess as you go.
